Women's Soccer Comeback Falls Short Against Marshall, 2-1

Junior Maddie Root scored her first career goal, but the Youngstown State women's soccer team's comeback fell short in a 2-1 loss to Marshall on Thursday evening at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 0-4 on the year while the Thundering Herd improve to 1-3-1 on the year.
After a scoreless first half, Marshall's Morgan White's header off rebound from a diving save by Zeeyana Jivraj put the Thundering Herd up 1-0 at the 47:17 mark.
Twenty-two minutes laters, Kat Gonzales gave the Thundering Herd a 2-0 lead by converting a penalty kick at the 69:36 mark.
In the 81st minute, Angelina Schilling's cross and a touch by Regan LaVigna found Root in the middle of the box and her shot ricochet off the right post and into the net.
The Penguins were unable convert on several chances in the final minutes.
Jivraj finished with six saves on the day.
Marshall outshot the Penguins, 16-10, while the cornerkicks were even at 10-10.
The Penguins visit Duquesne, Sunday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m.
