Box Score 2 Cleveland, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team extended its winning streak to six with a doubleheader sweep over Cleveland State, 8-1, and 9-1 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon at Viking Field.
With the sweep, the Penguins improve to 20-8 overall and 13-3 in Horizon League play while the Vikings fall to 9-19 overall and 4-13 in league play.
Senior Elle Buffenbarger turned in another dominating performance in the circle throwing a complete-game three-hitter with 12 strikeouts to improve to 9-3 on the year.
Senior Nikki Saibene went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in while freshman Jillian Jakse also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Maddi Lusk was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Youngstown State, which had 10 hits, scored three runs in the first, two in the third, another in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
In game two, Saibene went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Avrey Schumacher had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Penguins offensively. YSU scored twice in the first, once in the second, and used a six-run third inning to put the game out of reach.
Lusk picked up her ninth win of the season by tossing a two-hitter with three strikeouts.
Youngstown State returns home to host Green Bay in a four-game series, April 9-10, at the YSU Softball Field. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
