Box Score 2 Moon Township, Pa. -- Elle Buffenbarger fired her second consecutive shutout with a four-hit complete game to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 3-0 win in game one of a doubleheader at Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon. The Penguins dropped game two, 2-1, in eight innings.
Youngstown State improves to 29-11 overall and 22-6 in the Horizon League while the Colonials move to 23-15 overall and 18-12 in league play.
In the top of the third in game one, Yazmine Romero, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in, laced a one-out single down the right field line and moved to third when Alex DeLeon reached on an error. Romero scored the game's first run on a wild pitch.
Romero drove in Nikki Saibene, who extended her hitting streak to 17 games with a double to right-center, with a single.
Lusk provided Buffenbarger with some insurance when she clobbered her fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, to put the Penguins up 3-0.
Buffenbarger struck out five to earned her Horizon League and career-best 15th win of the season.
In the nightcap, Robert Morris scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to the walk-off win.
The Penguins scored in the top of the first inning when Lusk singled to right field and advanced to third on an error. After a ground out and a walk to Jillian Jakse, Lusk scored on a wild pitch.
Robert Morris tied the game in the bottom of the second inning after Madison Riggle tripled to right center and scored on a fielding error.
Lusk was the hard-luck loser tossing a complete game, scattering just six hits and striking out seven.
Youngstown State plays its final regular-season home games when it hosts Cleveland State, April 30-May 1, at the YSU Softball Field. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. and Saturday's first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
