Volleyball Falls in Three, Finishes Week With Split

The Youngstown State volleyball team had to settle for a series split with Robert Morris after the Colonials bounced back from Monday's 3-2 loss with a 3-0 win on Tuesday at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 25-21, 25-10, 25-20.
Robert Morris hit .231, a big jump from its .119 on Monday, and registered nine blocks to beat the Penguins in Youngstown for just the third time in 19 meetings. The Colonial improved to 1-11 on the campaign, and the Penguins dropped to 3-7.
Josi Borum followed up Monday's triple-double with another solid outing, posting 10 kills, 14 assists and seven digs. Libbie Darling had a team-high 17 assists in her first start of the season at setter, and Margaux Thompson had 14 digs. Aimee Beapure had four of her season-high five blocks in the opening set, and she added five kills.
Alyson Londot had 10 kills, and Maria Alfano had nine kills in 12 attempts without an error to lead Robert Morris.
Youngstown State went on an 8-1 early in the first set behind Thompson's serve to take a 9-4 lead, but the Colonials rallied to take the opening set 25-21. Robert Morris tied the score at 14, 15 and 16 before taking 19-18 lead on a block by Alfano and Alyssa Hudak. The Colonials finished the set on a 9-3 run after YSU led 18-16. RMU then scored the first four points of the second set and cruised to a 25-10 win, and 9-2 run in the third set helped the visitors turn a 13-13 tie into an insurmountable 22-15 lead.
The Penguins will make the short trip to Cleveland State next week for two matches against the Vikings. The teams will play on March 15 at 6 p.m., and they'll wrap up the series the following day at 5 p.m.
