Box Score 2 The Youngstown State softball team dropped a pair of games to Saint Francis (Pa.), 8-0, and 7-3, on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Softball Field.
With the losses, the Penguins fall to 8-6 and have lost three straight, while the Red Flash improve to 13-6 overall.
In the opener, the Penguins could muster just two hits, a double by Nikki Saibene and a single by Elizabeth Birkbeck.
Saint Francis starter Grace Vesco struck out seven in the five-inning contest.
In game two, the Red Flash scored seven runs in the first three innings to jump out to a 7-1 lead.
After the Red Flash plated a pair in the top of the first, Maddi Lusk scored on a passed ball to cut the lead in half. SFU scored three in the second and two more in the third frame.
Freshman Sophie Howell threw four innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
Lusk and Alex DeLeon each went two for three while Lusk scored a pair of runs and DeLeon drove in a run.
Kasey Lezon also added a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Youngstown State visits Dayton, Sunday, for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
