
Penguins Drop Final Road Match at Cleveland State, 3-0

The Youngstown State volleyball team fell in its final road match of the 2021 spring season on Tuesday, losing 3-0 at Cleveland State. The set scores were 25-21, 25-7, 25-14
Josi Borum had five of the Penguins' 20 kills, and she also led the team with 13 digs. Alexia Byrnes was back to sharing setter duties and had a team-leading 11 assists, and Margaux Thompson added 12 digs. Nadia Pace had a team-best two blocks.
Cleveland State was led by Hannah Greene's 12 kills, and Audrey McConihe had a match-best 16 digs.
Similar to Monday's match, Youngstown State pushed the Vikings late into the first set before the Northeast Ohio rivals took control.
The Penguins led 5-2 in the opening set after an ace by Thompson, and they held the upper advantage until the Vikings tied the score at 10. YSU led 13-11, and the score was tied as late as 16-16 before Cleveland State held on for a 25-21 win.
The Vikings scored the first 11 points of the second set behind Emily DeGeorge's serve, and they led the entire third set. The Penguins trailed just 13-12 in the third before CSU finished the win with a 12-2 run.
Youngstown State will conclude the spring on Monday with a doubleheader against Oakland. The Penguins and Golden Grizzlies will play at noon and 5 p.m. at Beeghly Center, and both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
