
Borum Posts 11 Kills in Loss to Purdue Fort Wayne

Sophomore Josi Borum posted 11 kills and two blocks for the Youngstown State volleyball team as it fell in straight sets at Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday evening. The set scores were 25-19, 25-17, 25-20.
Both teams saw their records even to 2-2 after the second week of the spring season.
Borum eight more kills than she did on Monday, and she led an improved performance by the Penguins. Amanda Lebioda was next in the kills column with six, and Alyssa Oswald had five. Morgan Cleevely had team highs with 11 digs and three aces, and Aimee Beaupre had two solo blocks and two block assists.
Katie Crowe led the Mastodons with 17 kills and 11 digs, and she went over 1,000 career kills in the match. Madelyn Wurster had 10 kills without an error in 18 attempts to hit .556, and Purdue Fort Wayne posted a .313 attack percentage as a team.
Purdue Fort Wayne led from start to finish in the first set, but back-to-back kills by Beaupre and Oswald got the Penguins within 20-18 and forced a timeout. The Mastodons scored five of the final six points of the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Crowe had nine of her kills in the opening set.
Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 7-1 run midway through the second set to turn a 14-12 advantage into a 21-13 lead, and the teams battled through nine ties and four lead changes in the third set. YSU's final lead came at 18-17 on a Borum kill, but Purdue Fort Wayne scored four straight points as part of a 6-1 run on its way to a 25-20 victory.
Youngstown State will return home to host UIC next week. The Penguins and Flames will play at 6 p.m. on Monday, and they'll play at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Tuesday's match was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. but was moved up an hour.
