Dockery Places Fifth Individually, Penguins Remain Fourth Through Saturday

The Youngstown State bowling team had an improved effort and picked up two more head-to-head victories in traditional play on the second day of the James Brown Invitational on Saturday. The tournament is being held at AMF Country Club Lanes in Baltimore.
Senior Emma Dockery placed fifth individually to lead the better performance and earn all-tournament team honors. It was the third straight tournament that a Penguin has finish in the top five.
"We improved by 203 pins today overall and had much better competitive energy," YSU head coach Doug Kuberski said. "I love where our focus is. It's on being better each day, both players and coaches. If we continue trending tomorrow, I like our chances to be right there in the end."
YSU dropped its first two matches to Duquesne (950-852) and North Carolina A&T (958-899), but it bounced back to win its next two over Morgan State (995-945) and Delaware State (927-883). The Penguins lost the final match of qualifying 937-885 to Coppin State but maintained a top-four seed for Sunday's bracket.
Individually, Dockery posted a 988 for a five-game average of 197.60. She improved each game, starting with a 172 and finishing with a 234. Sarah Florence and Emma Wasielewski finished within a pin of each other at 914 and 913 to place 14th and 15th, respectively. Four other Penguins combined to bowl in the other two spots in the lineup.
YSU will begin bracket play on Sunday against Delaware State at 10:25 a.m.
