Bowling Finishes Fourth at James Brown Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team went 1-2 in bracket play on Sunday and finished in fourth place at the James Brown Invitational. The tournament was held at AMF Country Club Lanes in Baltimore.
The Penguins were the fourth seed in the bracket after posting the fourth-highest pinfall over 10 matches of qualifying. YSU lost 4-2 to Delaware State in the opening round of bracket play in a closely contested match where the final three games were decided by a total of 12 pins. The Penguins bounced back to top Coppin State 4-2 to set up a contest for third place with Duquesne, but the Dukes prevailed in six games.
"I'm proud of the fight we showed all weekend," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "Bowling is a large sample size sport at its core, and we know we are a much better team than what we showed at this event in a small sample. We have a lot of notes and things we will work to improve upon, and I know this event will make us stronger. As we get more events in and our sample size increases, we will be stronger."
Emma Dockery received an All-Tournament Team plaque for her individual fifth-place finish on Saturday, and the Penguins received a fourth-place award.
Youngstown State will be back on the lanes next weekend for the three-day Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
