Penguins Pick Up Two Baker Wins at James Brown Invite

The Youngstown State bowling team battled through five Baker matches on Friday at the James Brown Invitational and ended the day with a 2-3 record in head-to-head matches. The tournament is being held at AMF Country Club Lanes in Baltimore.
"We didn't have our best stuff today, but we are focused on the right things and are primed for a big weekend," YSU head coach Doug Kuberski said. "Rebounding is in our DNA, and that's what we plan to do starting tomorrow. This is all part of the process of becoming a great team."
The eighth-ranked Penguins lost to the other three ranked teams in the field on Friday, falling 914-895 to No. 15 Delaware State, 935-796 to No. 17 Duquesne and 1,003-853 to No. 13 North Carolina A&T. YSU beat Coppin State 867-828 and Morgan State 924-883.
Youngstown State had the fourth-highest pinfall on Friday with 4,345 pins over their five matches for an average of 173.8 per game. North Carolina A&T had the best day with a 5,189 pinfall, and Delaware State and Duquesne occupied the second and third spots. Coppin State is fifth after the first day of qualifying, and Morgan State is sixth.
YSU will try to improve on Saturday as it completes another Round Robin in traditional play. The first match will begin at 11:25 AM.
