Penguins Place Sixth at Hawk Classic to Conclude Fall Semester

The Youngstown State bowling team finished up its fall semester schedule by placing sixth at the Eastern Shore Classic on Sunday morning at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del.
The Penguins placed sixth or better in each of their four tournaments in the fall with a pair of runner-up finishes in October and a fifth-place finish last weekend at the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic.
"I'm proud of our semester. We've elevated our game together each time out, and our focus on the things we can control is getting stronger and stronger," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "We've also gained some valuable experiences and learned a lot together, and we'll have that to build upon and draw upon next semester. I love this group and can't wait to get back after it. We're playing at a high level and this is only the beginning."
The Penguins were seeded sixth through the two days of qualifying, and that's where they ended up after going 1-2 on Sunday. YSU lost 4-1 to Delaware State in the first match of the day, and it bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's. The Penguins averaged 205.2 in the win over The Mount and had their highest total of the day in game three when they threw the back six for a 236. Youngstown State then built a 3-0 lead in a rematch against Delaware State, but the Hornets won game four by four pins and finished the match by winning the final four games.
Youngstown State's next tournament will be the Northeast Classic, which will begin on Jan. 21. It will be the first of five tournaments in the spring semester leading up to the Southland Bowling League Championship on March 25-27.
