Bowling Wins Twice to Finish MOTIV Ladyjack Classic in Fifth

The Youngstown State bowling team went 2-1 in bracket play on Sunday at the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic and finished the tournament in fifth place. The tournament was hosted by Stephen F. Austin at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis.
The Penguins, who are ranked seventh in the NTCA Top 25 poll, were seeded sixth in the bracket after two days of qualifying. YSU opened the day with a sweep of SFA, which was fifth in the bracket and ranked 10th in the poll, and the Penguins also had a win over 15th-ranked Maryville. Youngstown State finished the tournament with a 10-3 head-to-head record, which was its best tournament record this season.
Youngstown State began bracket play with a 4-0 victory over the Ladyjacks for the second straight tournament. YSU shot at least 194 in all four games and outscored Stephen F. Austin 838-734 overall. The Penguins then fell 4-1 to Arkansas State as the Red Wolves averaged 213.2 in the match, and YSU held on to beat the Saints 4-3.
Youngstown State dropped the first match 176-175, but it bounced back behind a double in the 10th frame by Emma Dockery to win game two 203-201. The Penguins had their highest game on the pair in game three with a 216-180 win, and Maryville had its second one-pin win in game four at 202-201. YSU's lowest game of the day came in game five in a 183-140 loss, but the Penguins won the next two games 174-168 and 193-176.
Youngstown State will wrap up its fall schedule next weekend at the three-day Eastern Shore Hawk Classic. The tournament will be Nov. 19-21 at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del.
