
Penguins Fall Late in 1-0 Loss at IUPUI

Indianapolis - IUPUI's Maya Lacognato scored in the 85th minute to lift the Jaguars to a 1-0 victory over the Youngstown State women's soccer team at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Saturday morning.
Lacognato's goal in the lower-left portion of the net came seconds after a throw-in with 5:26 remaining in the second half. The winning shot came on assists from Paige Waskom and Renae Blevins. It was the first second-half goal that the Penguins allowed this month, and YSU had not surrendered a goal without a penalty kick in more than 570 minutes.
YSU is now 2-10-5 overall and 2-4-4 in Horizon League play, while IUPUI improved to 4-10-3 overall and 3-5-2 against the conference. The Jaguars jumped the Penguins in the league standings with an 11-10 edge in points.
Maddie Root had two of Youngstown State's five shots in the game, and Marcella Sizer and she both had shots on goal. Goalkeeper Brooklyn Kirkpatrick notched eight saves, seven of which came before Lacognato's goal.
IUPUI had a 19-5 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Jaguars also had six corner kicks to Youngstown State's two.
Both of the Penguins' shots on goal against IUPUI goalkeeper AP Woodall. Root's came in the 56th minute, and Sizer's came in the 75th minute. Sizer's attempt was YSU's only shot in the final 34 minutes.
Youngstown State will play at Robert Morris in the regular-season finale on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
