Penguins Drop Tough 1-0 Decision At Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday night at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
With the win, PFW improves to 5-6-4 overall and 4-4-0 in Horizon League play while the Penguins are now 2-9-4 and 2-3-3. Despite the defeat, YSU sits sixth in the league standings with nine points following a 2-1 overtime win by Robert Morris at Wright State and a 1-0 win by Cleveland State over UIC. Cleveland State has nine points, WSU has eight points while IUPUI has seven entering the final three matches of the year for all four teams.
YSU had eight shots in the contest as Regan LaVigna had six while Jordan Evans and Elise Bush had one apiece. Evans had the Guins' lone shot on goal. Goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick had two saves.
In the first half, the Penguins were whistled for a foul just inside the top right corner of the box. On a pass off a throw-in, the Guins were called for the foul and PFW was awarded a penalty kick. The 'Dons' Bella Reltano kicked a prefectly placed free kick inside the left side of the net at the 30:25 mark.
The start of the contest was delayed 40 minutes because of lightning and inclement weather in the Fort Wayne area.
The Penguins play their final home game of the regular season on Sunday against Cleveland State. Kickoff at Farmers National Bank Field is set for 1 p.m.
