Bowling Earns Two Top-10 Wins on Day One at PVAMU Invitational

The Youngstown State bowling team picked up impressive wins over No. 1 McKendree and No. 7 Stephen F. Austin in Baker matches on Friday at the PVAMU Invitational.
The Penguins went 3-2 overall in head-to-head matches as they closed the day with a win over Prairie View A&M. Complete standings were not available Friday evening.
"The ladies did a great job bouncing back from the first two matches, and I loved how we battled through the last match and the lane breakdown," YSU head coach Doug Kuberski said. "We'll rest up tonight and look to continue to play our game. I love our chances to make a run this weekend."
The Penguins lost 957-940 to No. 19 Tulane to open the tournament, and they dropped a 1,029-888 match to No. 4 Nebraska. YSU got its first win with a 990-930 victory over seventh-ranked Stephen F. Austin, and the Penguins followed that up with a one-pin, 968-967 victory over McKendree. Anchor Emma Wrenn bowled a nine-count spare and a strike in the 10th frame to old off the Bearcats. YSU then posted an 849 in its win over PVAMU in a match that occurred over two pairs as a lane breakdown forced the Penguins and Panthers to move midway through.
Youngstown State will bowl in five traditional games on Saturday beginning at 10:25 a.m. ET. BowlTV.com will stream all five matches for free.
