Bowling Heads South for PVAMU Invitational This Weekend

The Youngstown State bowling team will fly to Dallas this weekend to compete against a loaded field at the PVAMU Invitational. The tournament will be held at USA Bowl, and seven of the top-10 teams in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 poll will participate.

Previewing The Field
The 10th-ranked Penguins will have some stiff competition this weekend down in Texas as seven teams ranked in the top-10 of the NTCA Top 25 poll and another in the top 20 will all be in attendance. YSU will compete against No. 1 McKendree, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 9 Louisiana Tech, No. 19 Tulane, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. Six of the 10 teams in the field are members of the Southland Bowling League.
Recapping the Columbia 300 Saints Invite
Youngstown State finished third at the Columbia 300 Saints Invite last weekend, which was its first tournament of the spring semester. The Penguins were fourth after 11 matches of qualifying, and they took No.1-ranked and eventual tournament champion McKendree to an eighth-game tiebreaker in the semifinals before losing. YSU bounced back to beat No. 4 Nebraska in six games in the consolation final. Junior Emma Wrenn finished second individually with a six-game total of 1,292. She bowled at least 210 in all six games, and she broke the previous school record for pinfall in a six-game tournament by 21 pins. Wrenn leads the Penguins in scoring average at 198.33, and she has surpassed 200 nine times

Youngstown State is idle next week, but it will begin a stretch of three straight competition weekends on Feb. 12. The Penguins will bowl at the James Brown Invitational, the Mid-Winter Invitational and the Big Red Invitational over the final three weeks of February.
