Softball Opens Season With Two Wins

Boiling Springs, N.C. -- The Youngstown State softball team opened the 2020 season with a pair of wins at the Gardner-Webb AmericINN Lodge and Suites Tournament on Friday.
The Penguins defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore, 17-2, and Canisius, 5-1.
Against UM-Eastern Shore, the Penguins posted 10 hits while Maddi Lusk went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs and an RBI, and struck out seven to get the win. Junior Yazmine Romero and freshman Conchetta Rinaldi also had two hits each for the Penguins.
In the nightcap, junior Elle Buffenbarger tossed a three-hit complete game with seven strikeouts. Lusk went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Romero was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Penguins face Maryland-Eastern Shore at Noon and Gardner-Webb on Saturday at Noon and 4 p.m.
