Morgantown, W. Va. - The Youngstown State baseball team fell 14-1 to West Virginia on Tuesday at Monongalia County Ballpark in a midweek non-conference contest.

The Mountaineers scored nine runs over the first three innings including six in the second on the way to their third straight victory in the series between the two teams.

Eight different Mountaineers recorded at least one hit in the contest. Tyler Doanes collected two hits including a triple and scored two runs to go along with three RBIs. Tevin Tucker doubled, homered, scored three times and drove in four runs.

The Mountaineers took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Darius Hill reached with a two-out walk, and a fielding error on a fly ball to right field allowed him to race home for the first run of the game.

WVU added six runs on three hits and four walks in the bottom of the second to extend its lead to 7-0. The inning began with three consecutive walks to load the bases, and Tucker followed with a two-run double down the left field line. Doanes drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before Tucker scored on a throwing error as he stole third, and Kevin Brophy plated two more runs with a single later in the inning.

West Virginia increased its lead to 12-0 with two runs on three hits in the third, and three runs on three hits in the fifth. Doanes and Hill each had run-scoring hits in the third while Doanes, Phillip Dull and Andrew Zitel each recorded RBIs in the fifth. A two-out, two-run home run from Tucker in the sixth pushed the WVU advantage to 14-0.

Swarmer led off the top of the seventh with a double to left center, and Drew Dickerson followed with a walk. Both runners moved up 90 feet on an groundout to second base by Zach Farrar, and Nasonti sent Swarmer home with a groundout to produce the final tally.

YSU starter Chad Coles was saddled with the loss after allowing one unearned run on no hits and a walk in just one inning of work. Greg Dunham took over for Coles in the second, and was responsible for three runs after walking all three batters he faced. Cade Negley and Grant Kersh each surrendered five runs over a combined five innings before Kip DeShields and Zach Lopatka each worked a scoreless frame.

WVU starter Nick Snyder allowed four hits and stuck out four batters over four scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season.
