
Women's Soccer Knocks Off Cleveland State, 1-0

Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's soccer team earned their first Horizon League victory since 2016 as they defeated Cleveland State 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Krenzler Field.
Addie Roman's goal at the 27:06 mark proved to be the game winner as the Penguins improve to 3-8-1 (1-2 Horizon League) and earn their first victory over Cleveland State since 2014, who drops to 3-6-2 (1-2 Horizon League).
The Vikings nearly took the lead in the 19th minute when a breakaway shot from Essence Canady was saved by Kate McEachern. Nine minutes later, Regan LaVigna connected with Roman on a cross who's header snuck inside the left post in the 28th minute to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
At the half, the Vikings out shot the Penguins 12-3 and had more corner kick opportunities, 4-0. McEachern finished the half with two saves while three different Penguins recorded a shot.
In the second half, Cleveland State had a number of scoring opportunities but McEachern was stellar in goal making five saves.
McEachern finished the match with seven saves and earned her fourth career shutout while Laurel Prokopchak, Kylan Harper, Marcella Sizer, LaVigna and Roman eached recorded a shot.
The Penguins return to the pitch on Sunday, October 6 when they host Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. from Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
