Youngstown, Ohio - Freshman midfielder Samantha Mazula scored a goal in the 88th minute to salvage a 2-2 tie against Chicago State on Friday at Farmers National Bank Field.

Chicago State and the Penguins both move to 0-0-1 after today's season opener.

The Cougars got on the board first when Anaika Stevens scored in the 50th minute on a breakaway goal. Chicago State pushed their lead to 2-0 after Marissa Beale chipped the ball over the keeper in the 69th minute.

With Youngstown State trailing 2-0 in the 80th minute, junior forward Rasheda Abdul-Rahman recieved a midfield pass from junior defender Larsen Murvin. After Abdul-Rahman settled the ball just outside of the box, she fired a shot into the lower left corner to bring the score to 2-1. Eight minutes late, on a corner kick, Samantha Mazula was able to fight through traffic in front of the net to tie the game at 2-2 with only two minutes left in regulation.

With the teams tied at the end of regulation, two 10 minute overtime periods were played to decide a winner. During overtime, the Penguins outshot Chicago State 8-2 with plenty of chances to score but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Penguins outshot the Cougars, 24-5 and had seven shots on goal while Chicago State only had three. Youngstown State also held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

The Penguins are back in action on Sunday, Aug. 19 when they host Howard at 1 p.m. from Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
