Charleston, S.C. -- The College of Charleston scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings of game two of a doubleheader to lead the Cougars to a doubleheader sweep of the Youngstown State softball team, 9-5. The Penguins dropped the first game, 9-1, in five innings.

The Penguins fall to 4-11 overall while the Cougars improve to 12-7.

With the scored tied 1-1 after four innings, the Penguins plated four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. After a one-out walk by Maddi Lusk, Lexi Zappitelli doubled to put runners at second and third for senior Stevie Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored two RBIs. Taylor followed with a two-run double to left field scoring Lusk and Zappitelli. Taylor advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tatum Christy's single to left field. Kelly Thompson-Cappadocio's bases-loaded walk scored Alexis Roach to five the Penguins a 5-1 lead.

The Cougars plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5 and four more in the bottom of the sixth to seal the game.

Christy also went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.

In the first game, the Penguins managed just five hits led by senior Hannah Lucas, who went 2-for-2 and scored the Penguins lone run.

Youngstown State plays North Carolina A&T on Friday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
