Softball Drops Pair on Sunday at Winthrop Tournament

Rock Hill, S.C. -- The Youngstown State softball team fell to 4-9 after dropping a pair of games on Sunday at the Winthrop Tournament. The Penguins fall to Eastern Kentucky, 7-6, and Winthrop, 4-0.
Against the Colonels, the Penguins used a six-run fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead over the Eastern Kentucky. Alexis Roach led off the inning by reaching on an error and a walk by Stevie Taylor and a single by Cali Mikovich loaded the bases. A bases-loaded walk to pinch-hitter Elizabeth Birkbeck got the Penguins on the board, and Hannah Lucas was hit by a pitch that plated Taylor with the tying run.
Yazmine Romero singled through the left side to score Mikovich and Maddi Lusk's two-run double to right-center field put the Penguins up 5-2. Romero then scored on a passed ball.
The Colonels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback.
Romero led the Penguins with two hits.
Against Winthrop, the Penguins tallied just three hits in the 4-0 loss.
The Penguins return to action with a single game against South Carolina on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m.
