Maddi Lusk's Four-Hit Gem Leads Softball to 4-1 Win at UNC-Wilmington

Wilmington, N.C. -- Sophomore Maddi Lusk fired a four-hitter with two strikeouts and also drove in a pair of runs to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 4-1 win over UNC-Wilmington on Sunday morning.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 8-12 overall and have won four of their last five contests.
Freshman Yazmine Romero had two of the Penguins four hits, scored once and drove in a run.
The Penguins used a three-run fifth to break a 1-1 deadlock and Lusk retired seven of the last eight batters she faced.
In the fifth, Alexis Roach led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on sacrifice bunt by Tatum Christy. After a walk to senior Cali Mikovich and an infield single by senior Hannah Lucas loaded the bases, Romero's infield single plated Roach with the go-ahead run.
A bases-loaded walk to Lexi Zappitelli scored Mikovich and a Lusk's sacrifice bunt plated Lucas to put the Penguins up 4-1.
Youngstown State struck first in the top of the when Lusk's bunt single drove in Romero, who singled to lead off the inning. UNC-Wilmington tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the frame.
The Penguins will be off for 10 days and face Kent State, Wednesday, March 21, in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
