
Cailtyn Minney's Pitching Effort Leads Softball to Split at Tennessee State

Nashville, Tenn. -- Junior Caitlyn Minney struck out four and allowed just six hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 13-2 win over Tennessee State. The Penguins dropped the second game, 7-5.
Minney pitched five innings to pick up her sixth win of the season and the Penguins improve to 7-7 n the year.
Maria Lacatena led the Penguins 11-hit attack going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Brittney Moffatt, Miranda Castiglione and Cali Mikovich each had two hits for the Penguins.
The Penguins scored seven runs in the first and five more in the second two give Minney a comfortable lead after two innings. Lacatena drove in a run with a single to center field in the top of the third.
In game two, Tennessee State jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings and Penguins mounted a late-inning comeback that fell short.
Youngstown State scored three runs in the top of the seventh when Hannah Lucas led off the frame with a triple and scored on Castiglione's single to left field.
Alexandria Gibson doubled to left-center field and scored Moffatt, who walked, and Castiglione, but was thrown out at third trying to stretch her hit into a triple.
The Penguins visits Memphis for a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 8, starting at 3 p.m.
