Seven Run Fourth Helps Belmont Take Rubber Match vs. YSU

Box Score

Belmont scored seven runs on five walks and a big three-run double and beat the Youngstown State baseball team 12-6 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park.

Youngstown State led 4-0 after a four-run second, but Belmont scored the next 12 runs en route to winning the series two games to one.

Andrew Kendrick went 3-for-5 with a home run, and Lorenzo Arcuri and Dominic Brown both had a pair of hits as YSU outhit Belmont 12-9.

Penguins pitchers walked 10 batters, and the bullpen allowed eight runs in 4.2 innings.

YSU loaded the bases to start the second on singles by Kendrick and Shane Willoughby and a Trey Bridis walk. A sacrifice fly by Dominic Farina and a ground out by Brown brought in the first two runs, and Lorenzo Arcuri and Alex Larivee followed with back-to-back RBI singles with two outs.

Belmont got on the board in the third on Brennan Washington's two-out RBI double, and the Bruins followed that with their seven-run fourth that came off four different Penguins pitchers. YSU starter Collin Floyd retired the first batter of the inning, but he walked the next batter and surrendered back-to-back doubles that cut the margin to one. Jesse Slinger walked his first batter to put two runners on, and he struck out his next opponent for the second out of the inning.

Michael Semonsen came in and walked all three batters he faced to force in two runs that put Belmont ahead 5-4, and Alex Ward cleared the bases with a three-run double off Joel Hake.

Rafael Bournigal led off the sixth with a homer, and Belmont went on to score four runs in the inning to go ahead 12-4.

Kendrick's homer came with two outs and nobody on in the seventh, and YSU's final run came in the ninth when Web Charles doubled and scored on Ryan Cordova's single.

Youngstown State will begin a three-game series at Missouri on Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
