
Marissa Martin Scores Twice in 3-2 Loss at Northern Kentucky

Highland Heights, Ky. -- Junior Marissa Martin scored a pair of goals and junior Ernestina Abambila set the YSU single-season assist record but the Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Horizon League foe Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss the Penguins fall to 2-10-1 overall and 0-5 in the Horizon League while the Norse improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Trailing 2-0 at the intermission, Martin took a pass from junior Sophie McFarland and drilled a shot past the NKU goalkeeper from 15 yards out to cut the lead in half, 2-1, at the 61:05 mark.
A little more than two minutes later, Martin knotted the match in the 64th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Abambila broke the YSU single-season assist record with her seventh of the year.
NKU's Jessica Frey broke the tie with less than 10 minutes left to give the Norse the 3-2 victory.
Northern Kentucky outshot the Penguins, 20-7, including 11 shots on goal to three.
The Penguins visit Valparaiso, Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
