Vanbeek Posts 22 Kills in Four-Set Loss to Milwaukee

Youngstown State senior middle blocker Lori Vanbeek posted match high highs of 22 kills and eight blocks, but the Penguins lost in four sets to Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 25-18, 30-28, 18-25, 25-22.
Vanbeek's 22 kills came on 36 attempts, and she had just two errors for a .556 attack percentage. Fellow middle blocker Sarah Varcolla had 15 kills and five blocks, and The Penguins hit .299 as a team.
Bridget Wallenberger had 15 kills and six blocks to lead Milwaukee, which hit .291.
Milwaukee hit .500 and scored seven of the final eight points to take the first set 25-18. YSU had set points at 26-25, 27-26 and 28-27 before the Panthers ended the set on a 3-0 run to go up 2-0 in the match.
Youngstown State held UWM to a .038 attack percentage in the third set with a comfortable 25-18 win. The Penguins went on a 7-2 run early in the set to go up 7-4, and, after Milwaukee tied the score at 7-7, YSU led for the rest of the way after Vanbeek had three straight kills. Vanbeek had seven of her kills on 10 attempts in the set.
Neither team led by more than two in the third set until Milwaukee went ahead 17-14 on a Jess Kalous block of Vanbeek. YSU battled back to take a 21-20 lead on a kill by Sam brown, but Milwaukee ended the match on a 5-1 run.
Youngstown State's next match will be at Northern Kentucky on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
