
Women's Soccer Hosts Central Michigan, Robert Morris

The Youngstown State women's soccer team returns to action with a pair of matches this weekend at Farmers National Bank Field. The Penguins host the Chippewas, Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. and Robert Morris, Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m.
Last Week
The Penguins dropped a pair of games to Army, 2-1, and St. Mary's (Calif.), 1-0, to fall to 2-2 on the season. The loss to St. Mary's snapped an eight-game home undefeated streak dating back to 2014. Freshman Alison Green scored her first career goal against Army.
About Central Michigan
This is just the second meeting between Youngstown State and the first since 1998. The Chippewas won that contest, 1-0. Central Michigan enters the match with an 0-2-1 record. Samantha Maher leads the team with two goals. Kaelyn Korte has scored one goal and has one assist for three total points.
About Robert Morris
This is the 20th meeting between Youngstown State and Robert Morris in a series that dates back to 1996. The Colonials lead the all-time series, 11-7-1, but the Penguins have won five of the last six contests. Last season, YSU won, 3-1, at Robert Morris. The Colonials enter the match with an 0-3 record and have not scored a goal this season. The Colonials have lost to Duquesne, 2-0, Pitt, 6-0, and Niagara, 1-0.
Montgomery Named Defensive Player of the Week
Junior goalkeeper Katie Montgomery was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts during the season-opening weekend on Aug. 24. She became the first YSU goalkeeper in program history to tally back-to-back shutouts to start a season. She played all 180 minutes in the net and stopped the only shot-on-goal she faced. Montgomery now has four career wins and three career shutouts.
Balgoyen Making Stops
Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen has played well since being forced into action over the last two matches. She has posted 12 saves and has a save percentage of .800.
