Men's Basketball 2014-15 Season in Review

The men's basketball season came to an end recently and posted some impressive accomplishments during the campaign.

  • For the fifth straight season, the Penguins made at least 200 3-pointers with 208 in 2014-15. That total ranks fifth on the school's single-season 3-pointers made list.
  • The Penguins also scored 2,287 points last season, which marks the sixth straight year Youngstown State has eclipsed the 2,000-point plateau. It also marks the seventh time in the last 10 years the Penguins have scored at least 2,000 points. The 2,287 points rank tied for seventh on the single-season chart.
  • Senior Shawn Amiker closed out his career as the program's all-time leader in career games played with 128. He never missed a game and set the school record for most consecutive games played as well.
  • Amiker posted the best season of his career in 2014-15, averaging 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. His 370 points ranked third on the team and his 183 rebounds ranked second. He also ranked eighth in the Horizon League in scoring and 16th in scoring.
  • Amiker scored in double figures 21 times and recorded four double-doubles. He scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in an 87-79 win over South Dakota on Dec. 5.
  • Senior DJ Cole also closed out his career in 2014-15. Cole scored a career-best 292 points for an average of 9.2 points per game. His 150 assists were a career high and ranked 10th on the YSU single-season assist chart.
  • Cole became just the fifth player in school history to record at least 400 career assists and ranks fifth all-time with 418.
  • He also ranked second in the Horizon League with 4.7 assists per game.
  • For his career, Cole played in 121 games, which ranks third all-time, and scored 803 points with 284 rebounds. Cole also ranks tied for fifth all-time with 133 career steals.
  • He is just the third player in YSU's Division I era to record at least 400 assists and 130 steals. The other two are Bruce Timko (550 assists, 131 steals) and Kendrick Perry (505 assists, 246 steals).
  • Junior Bobby Hain became the 36th player in school history to score 1,000 career points when he scored 17 points against Milwaukee on Feb. 28, 2015.
  • He currently ranks 30th on the YSU career scoring list with 1,026 points.
  • Hain averaged 14.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and shot 51.4 percent from the floor. He ranked eighth in the league in scoring, third in field-goal percentage and fourth in rebounding.
  • Hain also posted nine double-doubles last season and scored a career-high 466 points with 238 rebounds.
  • Hain also needs just three more rebounds to become the sixth player in YSU's Division I era to record at least 1,000 points with 600 career rebounds.
