Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season at Oakland Friday

The Youngstown State women's soccer team (7-10, 2-6 Horizon League) goes for its third straight win and closes out the 2015 regular season when it visits Horizon League foe Oakland, Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Penguins defeated UIC, 2-1, on Senior Night on Oct. 24. Seniors Tyesha Kizer and Macey Riese each score goals to lead the Penguins to the victory. Riese gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute while Kizer put the Guins up 2-0 in the 72nd minute.
About Oakland
Oakland enters the match with an overall record of 6-5-6 and a 5-1-2 mark in the Horizon League. Joan Sieja leads the Golden Grizzlies with 13 total points on three goals and seven assists. Alice Palmer is the team's leading goal scorer with five. Goalkeeper Emily Zweng owns a goals-against average of .023, a 5-0-2 record, and has five shutouts.
The Oakland Series
This is the 10th meeting between Youngstown State and Oakland in a series that dates back to 1998. The Golden Grizzlies own an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series, and the Penguins lone victory came in 2014, 1-0, at Farmers National Bank Field.
Who's Kizer Soze?
Senior Tyesha Kizer turned her best week of the season last week. Kizer led the Penguins to a 2-0 record, scored her first two goals of the season and assisted on another. Kizer was also credited with two game-winning goals last week.
Riese's Pieces
Senior defender Macey Riese has been taking advantage of her rare offensive opportunities over the past two seasons. After not attempting a shot during her freshman and sophomore seasons, Riese has tallied four goals, 24 total shots and seven shots on goal over the last 35 matches. She ranks fifth on the team with 16 shots and is tied for second on the team with two goals. Riese posted her first career game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win against Findlay on Sept. 13. She also scored against UIC on Oct. 24.
Lum Stepping Up
Sophomore Kyler Lum leads the Penguins in total points (10) and goals (4). In a 2-1 win over Detroit on Oct. 21, Lum scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Penguins to their first Horizon League win. Three of Lum's four goals have come against Horizon League foes. She posted her first score in a 3-1 loss to Northern Kentucky on Sept. 18 and was credited with the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Sept. 20. Against Cleveland State on Sept. 30, Lum scored her third goal of the year that gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead over the Vikings.
Hackos Named Offensive POW
Sophomore Katie Hackos (York, Pa.) was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sept 14. Hackos, a telecommunications major with a 3.31 GPA, led Youngstown State to a pair of wins against IPFW and Findlay, scoring a goal in each match. She scored her first career goal giving YSU a 1-0 lead in the Penguins' 2-1 against IPFW on Friday. On Sunday, she added her second goal to tie the match 1-1 in YSU's 3-2 overtime win over Findlay. Hackos, who earned the first weekly award of her career, took a total of eight shots and had five shots on goal.
Shot Caller
Sophomore Kyler Lum has definitely taken her chances at the net. Lum leads the Penguins and ranks ninth in the league with 35 shots and 2.06shots per match.
Green Space
Freshman Alison Green stepped up big for the Penguins in a crucial moment. Green, who is tied for second the team in scoring with Katie Hackos, scored her second career goal in a big moment. Trailing Findlay, 1-0, in the first half, Green tied the match up in the ninth minute. Green took a cross from Alex Kitchart in the left corner and pushed a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
Montgomery Named Defensive Player of the Week
Junior goalkeeper Katie Montgomery was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts during the season-opening weekend. She became the first YSU goalkeeper in program history to tally back-to-back shutouts to start a season. She played all 180 minutes in the net and stopped the only shot-on-goal she faced. Montgomery now has four career wins and three career shutouts.
