Women's Soccer Hosts Detroit Wednesday, UIC on Senior Night

The Youngstown State women's soccer team will play its final two home matches of the season when it hosts Detroit, Wednesday, and UIC on Senior Night on Saturday. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
Last Time Out
The Penguins lost a 3-0 decision to Wright State on Oct. 17.
About Detroit
Detroit enters the match with a 6-7-2 overall record and a 2-3-1 Horizon League mark. Anna Mindling leads the Titans with four goals while Alyssa Lotito leads the team with 11 total points (three goals, five assists).
The Detroit Series
This is the 18th meeting between Youngstown State and Detroit in a series that dates back to 2000. The Penguins have never defeated the Titans in 17 tries and have lost the last two matches by a combined two goals.
About UIC
UIC enters the week with an overall record of 4-10-2 and a 1-4-1 mark in the Horizon League. Olivia Everin leads the Flames with four goal and nine total points. Jasmin Carrera has scored three goals for the Flames.
The UIC Series
This is just the second meeting between Youngstown State and UIC. The Flames, who started their program in 2014, defeated the Penguins, 1-0, last year in the only contest between the schools.
Lum Stepping Up
Sophomore Kyler Lum leads the Penguins in total points and goals. Lum posted her first score in a 3-1 loss to Northern Kentucky on Sept. 18 and was credited with the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Sept. 20. Against Cleveland State on Sept. 30, Lum scored her third goal of the year that gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead over the Vikings.
Hackos Named Offensive POW
Sophomore Katie Hackos (York, Pa.) was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sept 14. Hackos, a telecommunications major with a 3.31 GPA, led Youngstown State to a pair of wins against IPFW and Findlay, scoring a goal in each match. She scored her first career goal giving YSU a 1-0 lead in the Penguins' 2-1 against IPFW on Friday. On Sunday, she added her second goal to tie the match 1-1 in YSU's 3-2 overtime win over Findlay. Hackos, who earned the first weekly award of her career, took a total of eight shots and had five shots on goal.
Shot Caller
Sophomore Kyler Lum has definitely taken her chances at the net. Lum leads the Penguins and ranks ninth in the league with 32 shots and 2.13 shots per match.
Riese's Pieces
Senior defender Macey Riese has been taking advantage of her rare offensive opportunities over the past two seasons. After not attempting a shot during her freshman and sophomore seasons, Riese has tallied three goals, 20 total shots and six shots on goal over the last 30 matches. She ranks fourth on the team with 12 shots. Riese posted her first career game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win against Findlay on Sept. 13.
Green Space
Freshman Alison Green stepped up big for the Penguins in a crucial moment. Green, who is tied for second the team in scoring with Katie Hackos, scored her second career goal in a big moment. Trailing Findlay, 1-0, in the first half, Green tied the match up in the ninth minute. Green took a cross from Alex Kitchart in the left corner and pushed a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
Montgomery Named Defensive Player of the Week
Junior goalkeeper Katie Montgomery was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts during the season-opening weekend. She became the first YSU goalkeeper in program history to tally back-to-back shutouts to start a season. She played all 180 minutes in the net and stopped the only shot-on-goal she faced. Montgomery now has four career wins and three career shutouts.
