
Soccer Hosts Akron Friday Night at Farmers National Bank Field

The Youngstown State women's soccer team hosts its third straight Mid-American Conference school when it welcomes Akron to Farmers National Bank Field, Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.
About the Penguins
The Penguins (1-3) are coming off their third consecutive 1-0 defeat after falling at Buffalo on Sept. 1. After opening the season with a 2-1 win at Niagara, the Penguins fell to Canisius (Aug. 25) and Toledo (Aug. 30).
Guins Leaders
Senior Brittany Down and freshman Rachel Hutton have each scored a goal for the Penguins while senior Rachel Morrison and sophomore Katie Hohmann have tallied assists. Junior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky has posted 23 saves for an .852 save percentage. Podolsky also owns a 1.00 goals-against average.
About Akron
The Zips enter the game with a 2-1-1 overall record after posting win s over North Dakota (4-1) on Aug. 25 and Morehead State (2-1) on Aug. 30. The Zips opened the season with a 5-0 loss at Purdue on Aug. 23 and tied Marshall, 1-1, in their most recent match on Sept. 1. Megan Waskowski leads the squad with three goals and is tied with Sarah Sivic with six total points. Sivic has scored two goals and assisted on two more.
The Akron Series
This is the fifth meeting between the Penguins and Zips in a series that dates back to 2001. The Zips have won all four previous matchese, including a 3-2 victory at Stambaugh Stadium in 2008.
Dowd Nets First Career Goal
Fifth-year senior Brittany Dowd first career goal came at the most opportune time. With just 56 seconds left in regulation, Dowd headed a pass from Katie Hohmann into the net to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Penguins to a 2-1 victory over Niagara.
Ludwig In the Top 10
Senior Allison Ludwig has been one of the top offensive players in school history. Ludwig currently ranks sixth all-time with 11 goals and seventh with 24 total points.
