Soccer Hosts Cedarville, Opens Horizon League Play at Wright State

The Youngstown State women's soccer team returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Cedarville at Farmers National Bank Field before opening Horizon League action Saturday at Wright State.
Kickoff against the Yellow Jackets is slated for 7 p.m. while the match against the Raiders is set for 2 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
The Penguins (1-7-1) are coming off a 3-0 loss at Kent State on Sept. 20.
About Cedarville
The Yellow Jackets enter the match with an overall record of 5-1 and have won their last three games. Jacoby Ziegler leads the squad with seven goals and also has four assists for a team-high 18 total points. The Yellow Jackets are outscoring their opponents 20-5 and goalkeeper Hanna Harris wons a record of 5-1 with three shutouts.
The Cedarville Series
This is just the second meeting between Youngstown State and Cedarville. The Penguins were victorious, 3-1, in last season at Stambaugh Stadium.
About Wright State
The Raiders begin the week with an overall record of 2-4-3, but have not won since a 1-0 victory over Nevada on Sept. 1. Since that time, the Raiders are 0-3-2. Emilie Fillion leads the Raiders with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Fillion has scored half of the Raiders' 10 goals this season. Goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy has 56 saves and two shutouts.
The Wright State Series
This is the 17th meeting between Youngstown State and Wright State in a series that dates back to 1996. The Raiders have dominted the all-time series with a record of 14-1-1. The Penguins snapped a 14 match winless streak last season with a 2-1 overtime victory in the 2012 regular season finale. The Raiders defeated the Penguins 1-0 in overtime in the first round of the 2012 Horizon League Championship.
Ludwig In the Top 10
Senior Allison Ludwig has been one of the top offensive players in school history. Ludwig currently ranks sixth all-time with 11 goals and seventh with 24 total points. With five shots in 2013, Ludwig has moved into sitxh place with 89 career shots.
Spread Out Scoring
The Penguins have posted five goals this season and each one has been scored by a different player. Scoring goals for the Penguins are Cara Armstrong, Brittany Dowd, Katie Hohmann, Rachel Hutton and Nicolette Merlo. Dowd's goal was a game-winning header with under a minute left against Niagara on Aug. 23.
Match Season High
With two goals scored in the loss to Northern Kentucky, the Penguins matched a season best for goals scored in a match. Katie Hohmann each scored against the Norse on Sept. 15. It marked Hohmann's third career goal and the fourth for Armstrong.
