Women's Soccer Visits Kent State Friday

The Youngstown State women's soccer team returns to action this week when it travels to nearby Kent State, Friday, at 4 p.m.
The Penguins are coming off a tough stretch of three straight one-goal losses last week. They lost to both Robert Morris (9/11) and Ohio (9/13) by a score of 1-0, and fell to Northern Kentucky (9/15), 3-2.
Spread Out Scoring
The Penguins have posted five goals this season and each one has been scored by a different player. Scoring goals for the Penguins are Cara Armstrong, Brittany Dowd, Katie Hohmann, Rachel Hutton and Nicolette Merlo. Dowd's goal was a game-winning header with under a minute left against Niagara on Aug. 23.
Match Season High
With two goals scored in the loss to Northern Kentucky, the Penguins matched a season best for goals scored in a match. Katie Hohmann each scored against the Norse on Sept. 15. It marked Hohmann's third career goal and the fourth for Armstrong.
About Kent State
Kent State enters the game with an overall record of 4-3 and has lost two of its last three contests. Last week, KSU lost to Coastal Carolina, 1-0, and Cincinnati, 2-1, and defeated the College of Charleston, 1-0. The Golden Flashes, however, defeated Horizon League foe Valparaiso, 1-0, on Sept.1.
The Kent State Series
This is the 11th meeting between Youngstown State and Kent State in a series that dates back to 1997. The Golden Flashes own a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-1 win in the last meeting in 2011. Last season's game was canceled due to lightning. The Penguins won the first meet, 3-1, at Kent State, but have dropped nine straight.
Ludwig In the Top 10
Senior Allison Ludwig has been one of the top offensive players in school history. Ludwig currently ranks sixth all-time with 11 goals and seventh with 24 total points. With five shots in 2013, Ludwig has moved into sixth place with 87 career shots.
