Soccer Hosts Toledo in Inaugural Game at Farmers National Bank Field Friday

The Youngstown State women's soccer team will play its inaugural game at Farmers National Bank Field against Mid-American Conference member Toledo, Friday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m. The Penguins also visit Buffalo, Sunday, Sept. 1, at Noon.
The Festivities
To commemorate the first game at Youngstown State's new venue, the YSU Athletics Marketing and Promotions staff has planned a few pre-game events. The first 200 YSU student will receive a free Youngstown State Soccer T-shirt. Pre-game pizza will also be provided to YSU students in the northwest corner of the complex, and prizes will be awarded following a halftime kicking contest.
About the Penguins
The Penguins are 1-1 after knocking off Niagara, 2-1, on Aug. 23, and falling to Canisius, 1-0, on Aug. 25. Senior Brittany Down and freshman Rachel Hutton have each scored a goal for the Penguins while senior Rachel Morrison and sophomore Katie Hohmann have tallied assists.
About Toledo
Toledo is 0-2 on the season after dropping matches to Minnesota, 2-1, on Aug. 23, and Belmont, 3-2, on Aug. 25. Rachel MacLeod, Kiersten Johnson and Brooke Maletic have each scored one goal for the Rockets.
The Toledo Series
This will be the seventh meeting in the all-time series between Youngstown State and Toledo. The Rocket have won all six previous contests, including the most recent one in 2010 - a 4-1 Toledo victory.
About Buffalo
Buffalo is 0-1 on the season after dropping a 2-0 season-opening decision to Michigan State on Aug. 23. The Bulls visit St. Bonaventure, Friday, Aug. 30, before entertainin the Penguins on Sept. 1 at Noon.
The Buffalo Series
This is just the third meeting in the all-time series between Youngstown State and Buffalo. The series is tied, 1-1, after the Penguins won last season, 1-0, at Stambaugh Stadium. In the first meeting in 1996, Buffalo came away with a 6-0 victory.
Dowd Nets First Career Goal
Fifth-year senior Brittany Dowd first career goal came at the most opportune time. With just 56 seconds left in regulation, Dowd headed a pass from Katie Hohmann into the net to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Penguins to a 2-1 victory over Niagara.
Ludwig In the Top 10
Senior Allison Ludwig has been one of the top offensive players in school history. Ludwig currently ranks sixth all-time with 11 goals and seventh with 24 total points.
