Penguins Allow Seven in the Fourth in 8-3 Loss at Milwaukee

Box Score

Milwaukee scored seven runs in the fourth inning to blow open a 1-1 game and beat the Youngstown State baseball team 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field.

Both teams had nine hits, but the Panthers had five of theirs in their seven-run fourth. They also benefitted from an error and two hit batsmen in the frame in improving to 14-7 in Horizon League play. Youngstown State dropped to 8-13.

Drew Dosch singled and scored on Josh White's two-out double to put the Penguins ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, and Milwaukee tied the score on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.

Youngstown State left the bases loaded in the third and had runners at the corners with one out in the fourth without scoring, and Milwaukee seized the momentum with three straight hits to start its seven-run fourth. Seven different players had RBIs in the inning.

Marcus Heath doubled, and Kevin Hix and Padraic Williams followed with singles as YSU scored a run in the eighth, and David Saluga walked and scored on Phil Lipari's sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Milwaukee starter Mike Schneider allowed one run on four hits but walked four in five innings. He was credited with the win, and four relievers combined to hold YSU to two runs in the final four innings. YSU starter Jared Wight was charged with five earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.

Youngstown State will host Canisius on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in a special school day game in partnership with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The contest will be YSU's final regular season game at Eastwood Field in 2013.
