Softball Drops Series Finale to UIC, 3-2

Chicago, Ill. -- Youngstown State outhit UIC and walked 10 times, but the Penguins left 15 runners on base and dropped a 3-2 decision in the series finale against the Flames on Sunday afternoon.
The Penguins fall to 14-22 overall and 8-10 in the Horizon League while the Flames improve to 21-21 overall and 14-4 in the league.
Junior Courtney Ewing and Sarah Ingalls led the Penguins offense with three hits each.
The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a bases-loaded walk to Haley Knight and Samantha Snodgrass' sacrifice fly.
After the Flames tied the game in the bottom half of the second inning, the Penguins left the bases loaded in the third, and left two runners in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
The Flames to a 3-2 lead on a two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Penguins attempted rally in top of the seventh inning, but Knight was thrown out at home to end the game on Ewing's two-out single to center.
Junior Casey Crozier (12-7) was the hard-luck losing allowing just one earned run and scattering just six hits in the complete-game effort.
The Penguins host St. Bonaventure in the final home games of the season, Wednesday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at McCune Park.
