Softball Visits Robert Morris, UIC This Week

The Youngstown State softball team returns to action with a doubleheader at Robert Morris, Wednesday at 3 p.m., and visits Horizon League leader UIC in a three-game series, April 27-28. First pitch on Saturday will be at 1 p.m. and at Noon on Sunday.
The Penguins are coming off a busy week going 4-4 in eight games in six days last week. The Penguins won the Horizon League series over Green Bay, April 20-21, but dropped the series to Loyola, April 18-19. The Penguins also split a doubleheader at Eastern Michigan on April 16.
About Robert Morris
The Colonials enter this week with a 24-12-1 overall record and own a 7-2-1 mark at home. Robert Morris is lead by Ashley Gerhart with a .3349 batting average. Nicole Sleith leads the pitching staff with a 14-5 record and an earned-run average of 1.52.
About UIC
UIC owns an overall mark of 18-20 but leads the Horizon League with a record of 12-3. Pitcher Devin Miller leads the Flames with a record of 18-1 while Kara Komp ranks second in the league with a .398 batting average.
Rumph Nearing Career RBI Record
Senior Vicky Rumph is just three runs batted in shy of breaking the career RBIs record at Youngstown State. Rumph has 117 and needs to more to tie and three to break the record of 119 held by McKenzie Bedra (2005-08). Rumph is one of just five players in school history to knock in at least 100 runs.
Crozier Cruising Up Lists
With 95 strikeouts this season, junior Casey Crozier has moved into second on the career strikeout list with 319. The career mark of 386 was set by Kelly Murphy (2003-05). Crozier needs just 68 more to become the all-time strikeout leader. Crozier also need five more whiffs to become just the second pitcher in school history to record at least 100 strikeouts in two straight seasons. Murphy accomplished the feat with 179 in 2003 and 131 in 2004.
Sarah Smile
Senior Sarah Gabel is having the best season of her Youngstown State career. Gabel is second on the team and eight in the Horizon League with a .356 batting average. She is even tougher to get out in Horizon League play, posting a team-high .412 batting average.
Play It Again, Sam
Junior Samantha Snodgrass has been a tough out and very clutch. Snodgrass ranks fifth in the Horizon League with a .378 batting average. Snodgrass is also batting .375 with runners in scoring position, .442 with runners on base and .400 with the bases loaded. When leading off an inning, Snodgrass is batting .500 and .571 with runners on third and less than two outs.
Ingalls Enjoying League Play
Junior Sarah Ingalls has welcomed the chance to play against Horizon League opponents. Ingalls is batting .395 with two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs against league foes. She also boasts a slugging percentage of .605 in 15 Horizon League games.

The Penguins will play their final home games of the season when they host St. Bonaventure in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at McCune Park.
