No. 6 Women's Soccer Visits No. 3 Oakland In Horizon League Tourney First Round

2013 Horizon League Women' Soccer Championship Bracket
The sixth-seeded Youngstown State women's soccer team will take on third-seeded Oakland in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament, Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Rochester, Mich. at 7 p.m.
If the Penguins defeat Oakland, they will face top-seeded and regular-season champion Milwaukee, Friday, Nov. 8.
The Penguins (4-12-1, 2-5 Horizon League) are coming off a tough 1-0 loss in the regular-season finale to Detroit on Nov. 1.
About Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies (9-8-1) earned the No. 3 seed after posting 4-3 record in Horizon League play. Meghan Reynolds leads the team with six goals and four assists for 16 points. Kyla Kellerman has scored five goals while Joan Sieja leads the team with seven assists. Goalkeeper Payj O'Shea owns a record of 7-7-0 with 61 saves and has five shutouts.
The Oakland Series
This is the seventh meeting between Youngstown State and Oakland in a series that dates back to 1998. The Golden Grizzlies have won each of the previous meetings, including a 2-0 victory on Oct. 12.
Dowd, Ludwig Earn All-League Laurels
Seniors Brittany Dowd and Allison Ludwig were both named to the All-Horizon League Second-Team after a vote by the league's head coaches. Dowd, a defender, scored her first two career goals in 2013, including the game-winner against Niagara on Aug. 23. Ludwig, a forward, is tied for the team lead with six points and scored two goals and assisted on two more this season. Both of Ludwig's goals came against regular-season champion Milwaukee on Oct. 26.
Ludwig Now In Top Five
With two goals against Milwaukee on Oct. 26, senior Allison Ludwig has moved into fourth on the career goals chart with 13, and into fifth place all-time on the YSU career scoring list with 30 total points. Ludwig, who scored her first two goals of the season against the Panthers, also sixth with 102 career shots.
Podolsky Now Second in Victories
With the win over Cleveland State on Oct. 16, junior goalkeeper goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky moved into second place on the all-time wins list with nine. She is three wins shy of tying and four win short of breaking the record of 12 set by Christine Handte from 1998-01. Podolsky also owns the career goals-against average record at 1.23.
Hohmann is Charitable
In less than two full seasons, sophomore midfielder Katie Hohmann has moved into the top six all-time for most assists. Hohmann, who has a team-best three assists this year, ranks tied for sixth with sven career assists.
Armstrong Proving Tough
After not scoring a goal as a freshman in 2011, junior midfielder Cara Armstrong has become one of the Penguins top offensive threats over the last two seasons. Armstrong leads the Penguins with three goals and six points this season. In 2012, Armstrong also totaled three goals.
Haney The Shot Caller
Junior Chelsey Haney is quickly moving up the YSU all-time shot chart. Haney leads team with 53 shots this season. For her career, she has 104 and ranks fifth all-time.
