
Women's Soccer Seeks Second Straight League Win at Oakland Saturday

The Youngstown State women's soccer team seeks its second straight Horizon League win when it visits Oakland, Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. Fans can watch all of the action live on the Horizon League Network.
The Penguins are coming off their first Horizon League victory of the season after knocking off Green Bay, 2-1, on Oct. 5. Juniors Cara Armstrong and Chelsey Haney each scored goals to lift the Penguins to the win.
Haney Named Horizon League Offensive POW
Junior forward Chelsey Haney has been named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
This is Haney's first player-of-the-week honor of her career and the first award for the Penguins this season.
The last Youngstown State player to earn offensive player-of-the-week laurels was Rachel Morrison in 2012.
Haney scored the game-winning goal to lift the Penguins to a 2-1 victory of Green Bay on Oct. 5 at Farmers National Bank Field.
Haney fired six shots at the Phoenix, including four on goal. Her goal came on a breakaway on the left side of the box and powered a shot into the top right corner at the 51:31 mark
Haney, 2012 All-Horizon League Second-Team and All-Newcomer Team choice, has scored two goals this season and both have been game-winners.
About Oakland
Oakland enters the game with a 5-7-1 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Horizon League. The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a 2-0 win over Valparaiso on Oct. 9. Oakland has also lost to Green Bay, 2-0, on Sept. 27 and Wright State, 2-1, on Oct. 5. Megan Reynolds leads the squad with five goals scored and 12 points, but all in non-league action. Kyla Kellerman has scored two of Oakland's three goals in league play.
The Oakland Series
This is the sixth meeting between Youngstown State and Oakland in a series that dates back to 1998. The Golden Grizzlies have won each of the previous meetings, including a 6-1 victory in 2010.
Ludwig In the Top 10
Senior Allison Ludwig has been one of the top offensive players in school history. Ludwig currently ranks sixth all-time with 11 goals and tied for sixth with 26 total points. With 12 shots in 2013, Ludwig has moved into sixth place with 94 career shots.
Podolsky Owns GAA Mark, Now Second in Wins
With the Penguins 2-1 win over Green Bay on Oct. 5, junior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky moved into a tie for second place on the YSU all-time wins list with eight. Podolsky also owns the school record with a career 1.19 goals-against average.
