Milwaukee Strikes Early Again to Beat YSU 5-2

Box Score

Milwaukee -- Milwaukee scored all five of its runs in the first four innings and got another strong outing from its starting pitcher to defeat the Youngstown State baseball team 5-2 on Sunday at Henry Aaron Field.

The Panthers scored 15 of their 17 runs in the three-game series in the first three innings. Four of their five runs on Sunday came after there were two outs.

Jeremy Banks was 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead YSU at the plate. Jim Lundstrom was one of three Panthers to finish with three hits, and he added two runs and two RBIs.

Lundstrom hit a one-out single in the first and scored on Will Fadness' RBI single. Lundstrom then brought in a run on a bunt single in the second and came around to score on Jonathan Capasso's two-run double that made the score 4-0. Lundstrom doubled home Luke Meeteer in the fourth to put the Panthers ahead 5-0.

Milwaukee starter Mike Schneider faced the minimum number of batters possible through six innings, working around three hits by getting a double play and picking off two runners at first. He allowed a leadoff walk to Drew Dosch in the seventh before handing the ball off to the bullpen, but Jake Long was able to keep the Penguins scoreless in the inning. YSU then had runners at first and second with nobody out in the eighth before Long got a double play and a pop up to get out of the jam.

Dosch singled and Banks followed with a one-out double to set the table for the Penguins in the ninth. David Leon brought in Banks with a ground out, and Banks scored on an error to make the score 5-2. Dan Hurlimann followed with a single to put the tying run at the plate, but Jordan Guth struck out Padraic Williams to end the game.

Schneider improved to 2-4 with the victory, and YSU starter Blake Aquadro allowed all five runs on 12 hits in the loss.

Youngstown State will host Toledo on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
