Canfield, Ohio -- Senior Jordan Ingalls hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one to give the Youngstown State softball team a 3-2 victory and ignited the Guins to a doubleheader sweep of Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon. YSU won game two, 10-8.

The Guins improve to 18-6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Horizon League while Cleveland State falls to 8-25 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Ingalls, who was held hitless in her previous three at-bats, laced the first pitch she saw over the center-field fence for the game-winner.

Freshman Kayla Haslett pitched 7.1 solid innings but came out with a no decision. Haslett had a no-hitter for 3.2 innnings and allowed just two hits over the first 5.1 innings.

Cleveland State's Dara Toman knotted the game at 1-1 with a solo home run and Nena Doran's two-out single gave the Vikings a 2-1 in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Brooke Meenachan's two-out double to right-center plated senior Kristen Philen, who was hit by a pitch, with the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh.

After a strikeout, Haslett allowed a single and a walk to put runners at first and second. Sophomore Casey Crozier, who picked up the win, induced a fly out to left and a strikeout to close down the Vikings' threat.

In the nightcap, the Guins out-slugged Cleveland State with 13 hits, including three home runs, en route to the 10-8 victory.

After surrendering two unearned runs in the top of first, the Guins used a four-run second inning, sparked by Sarah Gabel's solo home run to lead off the frame, to take a 4-2 advantage after two innings.

Philen, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs extended the lead to 6-2 with a two-run home run to left-center field in the bottom of the third.

CSU's Alicia Nichols tripled and scored on a wild pitch then a solo home run by Toman cut the Guins lead to 6-4 in the top of the fifth.

However, YSU answered with three more in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI-double by Philen, a sacrifice fly by Haley Knight and a run-scoring single by Haley Thomas, who went 3-for-4, to extend the YSU lead to 9-4.

Toman was not done for the Vikings and belted a grand slam to center field to bring the Vikings within one, 9-8, in the sixth.

Vicky Rumph, though, launched a solo home run to left field to put the Guins up by the final margin of 10-8.

Junior Caroline Krombach also went 3-for-4 for the Guins in game two and was 5-of-8 on the day.

The Penguins and Vikings close out the series, Sunday, April 1, with a single game at 11 a.m.
