Vicky Rumph Leads 16-Hit Attack in 15-7 Win Over Howard

Spartanburg, S.C. -- Junior Vicky Rumph went 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs batted in and led a 16-hit offensive explosion in a 15-7 win over Howard on Saturday afternoon on day two of the Spartan Invitational.
Sophomore Sarah Ingalls belted her first career home run in a 2-for-2 performance and also drove in two runs and scored twice.
Seniors Jordan Ingalls, Haley Thomas and Kristen Philen also collected two hits apiece for the Guins, who improve to 2-1.
Sophomore Casey Crozier picked up her second victory of the season, throwing three innings of relief and allowing just one earned run with two strikeouts.
The Guins used a five-run first inning to answered the three runs Howard put up in the top half of the first inning to take a 5-3 lead.
After Howard scored two unearned runs in the top of the third to tie the game at 5-5, the Guins exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 13-5 lead.
Rumph doubled and junior Sarah Gabel single to put runners on first and third with one and Sarah Ingalls and Philen collected a run-scoring singles to put the Guins up 7-5.
Freshman Samantha Troxell singled through the left side to plate Ingalls and Philen to give the Guins a four-run lead, 9-5.
After a single by Thomas, freshman Brooke Meenachan drove in two runs with a single to right field then scored on Rumph's two-run home run to left-center field.
Howard plated two runs in the top half of the fourth to cut the deficit to 13-7, but Sarah Ingalls belted a solo home run and Jordan Ingalls singled to right field to plate Shayla DeCapita to close out the scoring.
The Guins take on George Mason, Sunday, at 9:30 a.m.
