Klonowski's Big Game Leads Softball to Split at UIC

Chicago, Ill. -- Senior Kim Klonowski went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, including a two-run home run to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a come-from-behind 6-3 victory over UIC on Saturday afternoon. The Guins lost game two, 11-0, in five innings.
The Guins improve to 18-14 overall and 1-7 in the Horizon League while the Flames fall to 15-16 overall and 6-4 in the league.
The Guins trailed 3-1 after three innings, but took the lead, 4-3, with a three-run fourth inning. Junior Haley Thomas began the rally with a one-out single to left field then stole second base.
A single to centerfield by senior Kristina Rendle moved Thomas to third and a double by junior Jordan Ingalls plated Thomas and advanced Rendle to third. Rendle knotted the game at 3-3 on a wild pitch that advanced Ingalls to third.
Klonowski's bunt single plated Ingalls with the go-ahead run after a walk to sophomore Vicky Rumph.
UIC threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning when they put runners on first and second with no outs. Freshman Casey Crozier came in relief of starter Hana Somogyi, and after a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, Crozier induced a pop up and recorded a strikeout to end the threat.
Klonowski's belted a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to cushion the Guins' edge to 6-3.
Crozier picked up her second save of the season pitching three scoreless innings of relief of Somogyi. Somogyi scattered six hits to pick up her seventh win of the season.
The Guins totaled 11 hits in the win led by Klonowski's three and two each by Thomas and Ingalls.
In game two, the Guins were limited to just one hit by Ingalls in an 11-0 loss.
The Guins and Flames close out the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
