Chicago, Ill. -- Sophomore Vicky Rumph went 3-for-4 and the Youngstown State softball team used two three-run innings to defeat UIC, 7-3, to claim the season series against the Flames on Sunday afternoon in Chicago, Ill.

The Guins improve to 19-14 overall and 2-7 in the Horizon League while the Flames fall to 15-17 overall and 6-5 in the league.

After three scoreless innings, the Guins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning capped by freshman Samantha Snodgrass' two-out, two-run home run.

Rumph led off the frame with a single to left field and moved to third on Kim Klonowski's single to center field. Haley Knight's sacrifice fly scored Rumph with the Guins' first run, and Snodgrass belted her second home run of the year to put the Guins up 3-0.

The Flames cut the lead down to 3-1 in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Guins answered in the top half of the fifth win another run.

Senior Kristina Rendle doubled to lead off the frame and advanced to third on a throwing error. Rendled then scored on a ground out by junior Jordan Ingalls.

In the top of the seventh, junior Amanda Palmore led off the inning with a walk and junior Haley Thomas reached on a fielding error putting runners on second and third with no outs. Rendle ripped her second double of game to score pinch-runner Kelly Fox and Thomas to give the Guins a 6-1 advantage.

Ingalls bunted Rendle over to third and Rumph's single to center plated Rendle with the Guins' seventh run.

UIC added two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but YSU pitcher Hana Somogyi was able to quell the Flames' threat.

Somogyi picked up her eighth victory of the season and struck out three.

The Guins return home to host Detroit in a three-game Horizon League series, April 12 and 13, at McCune Park in Canfield, Ohio. First pitch for Tuesday's single game is set for 5 p.m.
