Somogyi's Shutout Caps Softball Sweep of Toledo

Canfield, Ohio -- Hana Somogyi fired a two-hitter with two strikeouts to record her first career shutout in a 10-0 win over Toledo to cap a doubleheader sweep over the Rockets on Thursday afternoon at McCune Park. The Guins won game one, 4-3.
The Guins improve to 17-13 overall while the Rockets fall to 5-24.
In the nightcap, the Guins banged out 11 hits led by junior Haley Thomas' three and two each by juniors Jordan Ingalls and Amanda Palmore.
Thomas went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and drove in three more while Ingalls knocked in three, including two on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Guins plated three runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth.
Senior Kim Klonowski led of the four-run third with her first home run of the season, which put her tied for fourth on the YSU career home run list with 17. Thomas singled home freshman Samantha Snodgrass, who singled, then senior Kristina Rendle singled up the middle to plate Palmore, who singled, and Thomas.
In the fourth, Thomas doubled home pinch-runners Shayla DeCapita and Kelly Fox for the game's final runs.
In the opener, the Penguins trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Palmore ripped a two-run, two-out bases-loaded single to center to give the Guins a 2-1 lead.
After the Rockets knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, bases-loaded walks to Sarah Gabel and Palmore plated Vicky Rumph and pinch-runner Erin Gilmour with the decisive runs for the Guins.
A solo home run by Toledo's Morgan Smith cut the deficit to 4-3 before Casey Crozier shut down the Rockets for her 10th win of the season.
Crozier limited the Rockets to just five hits and allowed just two earned runs with six strikeouts.
The Guins visit UIC for a three-game series, April 9-10, in Chicago, Ill.
