Softball Drops Opener to Cleveland State, 3-1

Cleveland, Ohio -- Youngstown State starter Casey Crozier gave up just five hits and allowed just two earned runs but the Penguins' softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Cleveland State on Friday evening.
The Guins fall to 22-19 overall and 5-11 in the Horizon League while the Vikings improve to 23-17 oveall and 8-6 in the league.
The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning scoring on a wild pitch and a double steal.
Sophomore Sarah Gabel, who went 2-for-3, and junior Amanda Palmore ripped back-to-back doubles to cut the lead in half, 2-1, in the top of the fourth inning.
Youngstown State though would record one more hit the rest of the game off CSU pitcher Tess Sito, who struck out six.
The Vikings added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth for the games final score.
The Guins and Vikings will play a doubleheader, Saturday, April 30, starting at 1 p.m.
