Softball Drops Pair at Wright State Saturday Afternoon

Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team fell to 15-12 overall and 0-5 in the Horizon League after dropping a pair of Horizon League games to Wright State, 7-1, 8-2, on Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, the Guins mustered just four hits and sophomore Vicky Rumph drove in the Guins' only run with a single in the top of the first inning.
In the nightcap, senior Kim Klonowski, who had four hits on the day, went 3-for-3 and drove in a run while junior Haley Thomas went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.
Wright State, who capitalized on five Penguins' errrors, jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after two innings and never looked back. Two of the Raiders' three runs in the first were unearned after two Penguins' errors.
The Guins cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the second when Klonowski doubled home freshman Sarah Ingalls, who reached on an error.
Two more errors in the bottom half of the frame aided the Raiders in scoring three more to take a 6-1 lead.
Thomas led off the third inning with a triple and scored on Kristina Rendle's fielder's choice to bring the Guins within 6-2.
The Raiders added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth for the final outcome.
The Guins and Raiders will play a single game, Sunday, April 3, at Noon.
