Errors Hinder Penguins as Softball Swept By UIC, Finale Moved Up to 11 a.m.

Canfield, Ohio -- Senior Cheryl Cale scattered just seven hits, struck out four and allowed just two earned runs, but the Youngstown State softball team committed seven errors in an 8-0 loss in game one of a doubleheader against UIC on Saturday afternoon at McCune Park. The Penguins also lost the second game, 11-1.
YSU falls to 13-29 overall and 6-11 in the Horizon League while the Flames improve to 16-29 overall and 9-6 in the league.
The Penguins also tallied just four hits in the opener and only two in the night cap.
Freshman Vicky Rumph belted her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning before the Flames scored 11 straight runs.
The finale in the series has been pushed up to 11 a.m. due to a forecasted thunderstorm Sunday afternoon.
