Miscues Overshadow Thomas' Record-Tying Performance in DH Sweep

Canfield, Ohio -- For the third time this season, sophomore Haley Thomas tied a school single-game record with four hits in game of but the Penguins committed eight error in the opener and five more in the nightcap and dropped a doubleheader to Wright State, 13-7, and 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at McCune Park.
The Penguins fall to 12-24 overall and 5-6 in the Horizon League while Wright State improves to 15-22-1 overall and 6-5 in the league.
Thomas, who totaled six hits in the twinbill, went 4-for-4 with a triple, double and two singles in the opener while junior Kristina Rendle went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Freshman Vicky Rumph also went 2-for-4 and belted a home run in each game.
The Penguins jumped out to a 4-1 lead, including a three-run first inning that featured a leadoff triple by Thomas and Rumph's two-run home run.
The Raiders answered with four runs, three unearned, in the top of the third inning, two in the fourth, four in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
In the nightcap, Thomas, Rendle and sophomore Kristen Philen each recorded two hits, and Philen connected on her third home run of the season.
Wright State, though, hammered out 12 hits and capitalized on five more Penguins errors in the 10-3 win.
The Penguins and Raiders close out the series with a single game, Sunday, beginning at Noon at McCune Park.
